What this page tests

A real 3D Beijing courtyard lit by two bakes from tools new in three.js r187: unwrapUVs (automatic light map UVs) and LightMapper (progressive light mapping). They were made ahead of time, in the browser, with five times the samples a visitor could wait for; watch it bake live instead. One bake is the evening, one the rainy night: all but two of the lanterns and every glowing window exist only in that bake, as area lights with soft shadows traced through VXGI voxels, so they need no shadow maps at runtime.

“Rain” blends the two bakes while the sun sets. “Off” removes the baked layer, leaving what real-time lights can afford: the sun or moon, the two shadowed lanterns at the main doors and the room lamp. Camera, exposure and materials stay the same. The puddles (a separate planar reflection, ReflectorNode) and the glowing paper and silk do not change.
